More about Lori’s work
Somatic Experiencing
Somatic Experiencing is a body centered approach to emotional healing and trauma resolution developed by Peter Levine, PhD. It is based on 35 years of observation and study into stress and trauma and draws upon cutting-edge scientific research about how or nervous system responds to threat. The Somatic Experiencing Approach offers a framework to assess where a person is “stuck” in the fight, flight or free responses and provides clinical tools to resolve these fixated physiological states. It provides effective skills appropriate to a variety of healing professions including mental health.
While talk therapy can be helpful there are natural physiological responses (fight, flight or freeze) that occur when experiencing trauma in the body and these responses (thwarted energy) may get stuck. Therefore this may cause symptoms that impact your daily life. Somatic experiencing can help the body move through these responses and in return help decrease unwanted symptoms. PTSD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, chronic stress, relational concerns and transitional life adjustments can be addressed in treatment.
Applied Improv
Laughter brings Light as well!
I offer facilitation of small groups using experiential activities to explore assertiveness, communication, building trust and team building exercises. I love integrating my own learning with Applied Improv and social work skills to provide safe, fun, and affordable personal growth . As well I belong to an ZOOM improv group in Portsmouth, NH and love laughter. It is healing. In the spring I will provide a Somatic Experiencing Improv group to manage anxiety.
Counseling for Children
Lori provides a safe place for children to be who they are in the moment and offer opportunities for play and mastery in a caring nurturing environment. Somatic Experiencing is an approach that can be provided as well as play therapy and much more. At times it will be necessary and beneficial to include the parents/guardians as the children need the continued support in the home setting. With consultation and work together we can help your child become more resilient in today’s world.
